Something Amazing Happened! Now What? (Hint: a small giveaway!)

If you've been around awhile, you know the title is a reference to my What If Something Amazing Happens? post which is still, oddly enough, the most popular blog post I've ever written.  So yeah, I kept pulling that old rope and kept getting water dumped on my head until one day, I didn't.  Instead of water, I got a publishing contract.  Can't say WOOOO HOOOO enough!  Thank you again, Sapphire Star Publishing

(Incidentally, I found out today that the Doodlebops have not disbanded and are, in fact, coming to a venue near me which means I will be required to go.  Not to worry, I've rounded up a group of reluctant adults who will have to bear the torture, um I mean musical talents of the Doodlebops along with me.  I'm hoping they'll have a rope just for adults to pull at said concert that dispenses large quantities of wine.  I'll let you know.)

Mainly, the purpose of this post is to apologize to my fellow bloggers.  I've been just terrible at keeping up with all your posts, especially with the A to Z Challenge going on (the number of posts I want to read has increased exponentially this month!  Too many great posts, too little time!)  Just please know that I am trying.  Sometimes I don't comment but I have been trying to stop by the blogs I regularly follow as much as possible.

So what's been going on since I signed my contract?  Well it has been busy.  The health issue we are dealing with at home is slowly coming under some sort of control but we're still battling every day.  There is a lot of reading and research for me to do on that front.  Work is very busy.  The writing muse and I are circling each other warily, me demanding that she get her ass back in gear on the WIP and her saying, in an exasperated tone:  "Just a minute, just a minute" and that minute has gone on for 2 months so far.  Oddly, said muse sounds a lot like my four year old when she is trying to avoid anything that is not playing!

I'm also trying to get really and truly acquainted with Twitter, which as I understand it, is all the rage and great for promoting books.  It's taking me quite awhile to get the hang of it and I'm still not entirely sure what some things mean.  It's taking up a tremendous amount of time but once I settle into a routine of some sort, I'm sure I'll have more time for other things.

But I've already been properly "dissed" as they say around my way.  I followed an author whose many promo tweets about her book were good enough to get me to check it out. It sounded really good and I had some dollars left on Amazon gift cards I had gotten for my birthday so I bought it.  I tweeted her to let her know and she immediately unfollowed me.  I don't know about Twitter-quette but I know that that's pretty sh*tty etiquette!  Unfortunately, I cannot return the book.

Anyway, speaking of which, if you are on Twitter, you can follow me:  @lisalregan and I'll be launching Claire Fletcher's Twitter diary on 5/6/12 which you can follow: @IClaireFletcher.

I have a new website without the L in the middle of my name: http://www.lisaregan.com/ although the other one is still up as well!

And finally, in celebration of my BIG, BIG NEWS and in apology for neglecting my blogging duties, I'm giving away a $15.00 Amazon gift card to one lucky blog follower!  All you have to do is two things:

1.  Like my Facebook fan page (if you're on Facebook)
2.  Comment on this blog (tell me anything: how are you?  How's it going with your WIP?  With the rope-pulling?  Ever been the victim of bad Twitter-quette?)

And I will use random.org to choose a winner on Monday, April 23, 2012!

  1. Congratulations!! That's very exciting. I'll just answer all your questions. :) I'm doing pretty good. Tired. My WIP is looking good. It's in the beta read phase now. I've gotten a lot of water on my head, but that's okay. I'll keep pulling the rope. I actually don't really do Twitter.

  2. I'm still jumping and dancing for you my dear! This is so so so great!

I'm so bloggy tired right now, A to Z is stretching my sanity for sure, but I'm having a blast meeting so many bloggers and buddies.

I haven't been on twitter in a while. I should probably head over there.

  4. Like the new blog look. I'm still steering clear of twitter, thought I've eyed it here and there. I just have nothing to say in 140 characters or less. I am too much a long writer. Glad to hear the health things are stabilizing.

  5. You're keeping up just fine with the blogs. It's an impossible month. SO many posts every day.

And a pox on that Twittering fool of an author who unfollowed you. That's just wrong.

My muse is doing a slow, wary dance with me right now too. I'm about to throw a rope around her and tie her to a chair, but it may have to wait until this A to Z thing is over. :)

  6. Congratulations Lisa! I'm with you on almost everything but sickness at home. I ran over and followed your facebook page. Can you do the same for me? I just signed a contract a few weeks ago with WiDo publishing and I love your idea of a giveaway to get followers on facebook. I think I'll have to do that...next week.

    Here is my facebook LINK

Heading to follow your twitter feed now.

  7. I'm so happy for you with your contract, and can't wait to read your book. So exciting!!

I'm amazed at the Twitter author. What the heck?? I have been on Twitter for a while but I still don't really feel like I've got the hang of it.

Heading to check out your Facebook page now. :)

  8. Love your new blog background!
I'm on twitter. I'll try to find you and follow. I think twitter etiquette varies from person to person...people do what's best for them, I guess.
My WIP is going really well! Hope yours will be too once you get that muse back in harness. ;)

  9. I have the Doodlebops in my head now. Thanks for that. :P

Ugh. Sorry about the a-hat on Twitter. People never cease to baffle me with their actions.

By the way, I'm loving the new blog background! :)

  10. Boo to the person on Twitter that did that. "Hi, I bought your book that you've been promoting like crazy!" "Clearly you're subhuman..." Crap. Good luck with the giveaway, going to check out the new website now!

  11. That seems an odd reaction from the twitter author. You'd think a simple "Thanks!" reply would be in order. I have two twitter accounts myself, and rarely use either. lol

  12. Oh Doodlebops! So glad my daughter grew out of that phase, torturous! Good luck with that and I sincerely hope they have wine, might be kinda funny that way :)

  15. So fun to see you on Twitter! I'm officially a follower now. Kind of odd about the unfollow episode. I wonder if it was a mistake somehow on the part of the author. Anyway, wishing you better health in the household and hoping you're still celebrating that lovely contract.

  16. Hey, Lisa! Take it easy finding your feet with everything: juggling writing and family and publishing commitments... and Twitter. I find that incident slightly astounding, but let me just warn you that there are gremlins on Twitter that randomly unfollow people without you knowing. When I first twittered, I kept annoying folks by 'dropping' follows when I had no itention to. I try to keep an eye on it now but I have no real idea how to manage it. So the author in question might not have unfollowed you deliberately--it might have been a coincidence. Twitter is wild and wonderful but not without pitfalls.

Anyway, didn't mean to hog the comment spot on Tweeting. Congrats again, and I think you are doing fantastically well. Let the muse and you circle each other for a while--it's all part of the creative process!Xxx

  17. Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The text in your content seem to be running off the screen in Opera.
I'm not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I'd post to let you know.

The layout look great though! Hope you get the problem
    resolved soon. Many thanks

  19. I'm really enjoying the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any web browser compatibility problems? A small number of my blog audience have complained about my blog not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera. Do you have any ideas to help fix this problem?

  22. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found
a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She
placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.

She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had
    to tell someone!
