Last Call (and more contests!)
Tomorrow, August 22nd is the last call for the Hook for Your Book Contest for unagented mystery/thriller writers. As of midnight on 8/22 I will be closing the contest and sending all entry--I mean entries--to Jeanie for her consideration. The rules are posted below if you're still interested or know anyone who is interested.
Additionally, since we got so few entry--I mean entries--for this contest, Jeanie has graciously agreed to run 3 more genre-specific contests. So we'll be running the following:
Hook for Your Book for Fantasy
Hook for Your Book for Romance
Hook for Your Book for Historical Fiction
Fun stuff! As soon as I have the dates that each contest will run, I will post them. Everything will be exactly the same as the current contest--except for genre. Again, these are great opportunities for writers searching for an agent in these genres. So if you have a manuscript in one of the above-named genres (fantasy, romance, historical fiction), polish it up and work on your pitch. Also, if you know anyone who writes in these genres and is looking for an agent, please let them know. Each contest will run for one week--in other words, I'll post when it starts and leave that post up for one week so that people can enter in the comment sections.

So here are the particulars:
To Enter:
You must be a follower of this blog and provide a link to either a tweet or a blog post spreading the word about this contest.
You must have a completed novel. Your novel MUST be finished to enter this contest.
Write a 50 word paragraph that is the hook for your book. Basically pitch your book in fifty words.
Post your 50 word pitch in the comments section of my blog with a TITLE and your contact info before August 22nd.
This is only open to mysteries and thrillers.
If I were going to enter, mine would look like this:
Finding Claire Fletcher
Detective Connor Parks, newly divorced, with his career in jeopardy, spends the night with a woman he meets at a bar. The next morning Claire Fletcher is gone; leaving behind a hint of a decade-old mystery. Abducted when she was 15 years old, no one has heard from her…until now. Will he find Claire Fletcher?

Jeanie will choose three finalists. They will be announced on both mine and Melodie Wright's blog on August 29, 2011.
The finalists will send her a synopsis of their book as well as their full manuscript. From those three finalists, Jeanie will choose one manuscript and that manuscript will get a full read and a possible contract with Sullivan Maxx.
If you've already posted an entry, not to worry, I have it. If you posted your entry on the blog at my website, I have that too! I will make sure that Jeanie gets all entries.

And yes, it did take me 4 and a half years to get an agent. What can I say? Regans are stubborn.
